The Buzz

Hackers say they have gained access to U.S. vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin’s Yahoo account and published some of its contents on the Wikileaks Web site.

On Wednesday, Wikileaks published several screen shots of Yahoo e-mail messages, e-mail addresses of Palin family members and associates, and other data that hackers claim to have obtained from Palin’s private Yahoo account.   [Read More]

The Problem

Despite repeated attempts to check this story out by visiting the Wikileaks site, I could not successfully open the page. Obviously the sheer numbers of people trying to access their site has caused Wikileaks to become inaccessible. This was confirmed by the Wikileak (note, no ’s’) site as follows:

The WikiLeakS.org website seems to be inaccessible at the moment, and we can guess why – it is probably simply overloaded because of the mainstream media reports of allegedly hacked emails etc. sent or received by the US vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin having been leaked or published there.

If you are stupid enough to mistake or mistype wikileak.org (without an “s“) for WikiLeakS.org, then do not blame us.

So what is Wikileaks?

From Wikipedia:

Wikileaks is a website that publishes anonymous submissions and leaks of sensitive governmental, corporate, or religious documents, while taking measures to preserve the anonymity and untraceability of its contributors.

The Fraccy Opinions

A)   I don’t care if it’s Palin, Biden, McCain, Obama, Bush or a celebrity of some other nature… shouldn’t they be allowed some privacy? Hacking their private email account isn’t a whole lot different from stealing snail mail from their home mailbox, opening it, and then making it public. It’s not the thing to do.

B)   Shouldn’t Wikileaks, if their whole purpose for existing, is to publish anonymous and sensitive documents, know enough to make sure they have the means to handle massive amounts of traffic from such types of documents being provided to the public? Crikey. What did they think would happen when they publish such things? Didn’t they anticipate they might have a lot of traffic?

Pish.
