Sarah Palin’s Bikini Photo Controversy… Proof Right Here!
Gawds folks, don’t y’all have anything better to do with your time than fake bikini photos of female Vice-Presidential candidates?
It seems people are scouring the internet to find a bikini photo depicting Palin in a stars and stripes bikini, wielding a gun and a huge smile.
Sure, the photo is out there… but it isn’t her. It’s a photo-shop dealie thing.
As soon as I found the story, I found those who want to set the story straight, which boosted my faith in humankind.
I found a post at Poponut Mag… and they’d also found the origin of the fake.
I’ve posted that for you here and offer big thanks to them for being the first clarification… and found so quickly.

Next, I found this post over at Right Wing News. He too, had both photos available, and let us know how arduous a task it had been for him to search and wade through the available bikini photos on the internet, to find the one that was used to create the fake photo of Palin. He informed us that he had used his graphics program to check the photo out, and can attest to it being a fake.
That’s great, and staring at the photo it seemed to be created from, the conclusion of it being a fake seemed obvious, but I thought to myself…
fracas….
Shouldn’t a person attesting to something being a fake provide something for folks to go on other than their word?
Especially when most people reading that person, don’t really know that person and so why should they just take their word for it?
So I decided to do just that. Below is my effort to show why I, Mr. Right Wing News, the folks over at Poponut Mag and everyone else who realizes it’s a fake, do indeed think it’s a fake.

It really wasn’t all that much effort. A whole lot less effort that the person who faked Palin’s photo put in…
…or not, given the poor quality of the Palin fake.

For the sake of my own sanity, I’ve been avoiding politics for the past two years or so. The sheer insanity of it makes my brain hurt. Just last night at a video a store, I overheard a clerk talking about how Palin is “The All American” VP…”Look at her, one disabled kid, one kid going to serve in Iraq, plus she’s a woman! Couldn’t ask for a better VP!!”
Hopefully the other customers weren’t too bothered by me writhing in agony on the store floor, frothing at the mouth…

And isn’t Palin the same person who tried to ban books from the library when she was mayor of Wasilla? Imagine that. Book banning. In this era.

Just curious though… exactly where are you getting your version of the book banning thing from, ’cause that Kilkenny woman has a wee agenda of her own so prolly isn’t all that credible of an authority on what really happened.
Have you really checked into what Obama is all about though? He’s one scary dude if you ask me. Not that anyone does, but he is… when you look past the spin.
And isn’t it odd how suddenly people seem to be comparing Palin to Obama instead of Biden? People are skeered of her for some reason. I can’t imagine why…

Who is the Kilkenny woman? Never heard of her. I got my version from TIME Magazine. According to TIME, she wanted to ban books because they had “inappropriate language” in them.
Further to the TIME article, “The People for the American Way” issued a statement demanding an explanation… it says:
People can disagree about a lot of things, but censorship is completely beyond the pale. Our democracy was founded on the belief that government shouldn’t tell people what kinds of books to read or what kind of beliefs to hold. No one with that kind of history should be anywhere near the White House. Sarah Palin needs to clarify her stance on freedom of speech immediately, and John McCain needs to explain why he chose a running mate with so little regard for the Constitution. So far the McCain campaign has been quiet about Palin’s attempts to legislate what books people should be allowed to read.
Well the story about the book banning has been quite muddied. It seems that she had asked the librarian if she would participate in removing books, not any in particular. I read one explanation that the librarian was one of several people who were demonstrably opposed to her and in support of her opponent and so when she was elected and not the opponent, she had queried several different people in different ways to figure out if they would be loyal to her or not…. given that they’d publicly supported the opponent… who did not win.
This Kilkenny woman, who had also been opposed to her and is (by the way) a Democrat, made it her purpose to attend every council meeting during her first year in office. It is the Kilkenny woman who is suddenly ‘famous’ because she started an email chain ‘revealing’ what Palin is ‘really like’ and so my gut instinct is to reserve my opinion about the book banning since there doesn’t appear to be more than a rhetorical question… no actual book attempted to be banned, etc.
Given that Time is a liberal-leaning mag, their telling of the situation in the way they did isn’t surprising.
It would be nice if we could just trust that anything in the media would be balanced, but the reality is that it isn’t. We need to know where the info came from when deciding if we go on that alone, or look for a few more samples.
As you know, I used to debate pro-life issues and that’s a huge problem with that topic too. One of my favorite tactics was to us data from the condom manufacturers themselves to make my arguments, rather than use pro-life sources.
I think before people get their panties all tied in a knot with accusations of her book banning, they should look for some actual attempts to ban a book rather than make a case out of rhetorical questions just because someone who doesn’t like her and has opposing political views says that’s what she intended.
But that would just make sense… and the game of politics rarely makes sense.
Hurrah to fraccers and thank you for your blog post. If more people with even a shred of decency and common sense would take the time to research such products of incompetent and scurrilous miscreants (rather than spending time posting sophomoric and dull-witted flames in response to careful research such as your own), we might actually get to the business at hand . . . which is debating the merits of each side’s platforms and policy statements and electing leaders who actually know how to make decisions.
I do think it’s stupid to pull stunts like this in an attempt to discredit someone.
Now… if this was an obvious joke about some celebrity who had already put some ridiculous behaviour (like going panty-less) out there, then I’d look at it differently.
I’d think the same if someone had put Obama’s head on the body of some male stripper’s body or the like… it’s just not necessary.
I’m almost disappointed. I always thought she was a hottie!
