And for those wondering who owns the website where that .exe file (in the mail I received) originated from, it’s here at this lookup:

    http://www.whois.net/whois_new.cgi?d=amdesaj&tld=com

You too, could use the WHOIS.NET site to look up the origin of any malicious file that gets sent to you, and choose to report them to their IP.

  2. Haha – they can’t fool me with that one! I have no friends so know immediately that such a thing is fraudulent. On the other hand apparently, I can get my hands on a large proportion of $1,500,567 if I just press *this* ……..

Oh yeah… that one is actually real. I got my money about a month ago. Why do you think I have all this time to blog? ;-)

Good advice! Glad to hear my Nigerian “friends” reached out to you. They started on me through the regular mail and somehow got my e-mail too! So smart … yet they can’t get their money out? Any questionable e-mail I get I just copy a snippet of text, enter in search. and voila` – scam or no.

    Good idea there too Lydia!

Daddy P – Please don’t poo at my blog. Gee. I didn’t even have a chance to get the Poo-Pouri ready first.

My story… A dialog box popped up asking me to give permission for an internet explorer update…. being in a foul mood (while fighting with my comp full of viruses), I copied the details down, clicked cancel. I googled and there before my eyes… was the “Because I love you Virus” How many people would think that it is safe to click an update request….. being forewarned is forearmed! Suspicious from now on! It’s a big bad world out in cyberspace!

My favorite one is still, “Your computer is infected with a virus! Scan with AntiVirus 2009 now!” which pops up randomly on so many LEGITIMATE sites…

AntiVirus 2009 is SPYWARE, and downloads three different trojans in its payload to boot.
