Everyone wants to succeed online, be the guy who gets the most hits, makes the most money, and lives on the A-lists.
And they want it overnight.
I might not be the gal who gets the most hits, makes the most money or lives on the A-lists, but I do get some decent hits, I have made some money and once in a while, I manage to make the top of someone’s list.
I’ve been writing the fracas blog for almost two years now, and this one for a few months.
It’s not easy. There are higher times and there are lower times. There are times I can’t keep up with the comments or the hits, and times I wonder if everyone suddenly fell off the face of the earth. I sometimes wonder myself, what I’m doing right and what I’m doing wrong, so I can guess there are some of you who also would like to know what to do right and what not to do because it’s wrong.
Seth Godin has a wonderful article to help us understand the key to internet success.
He calls it patience.
Google was a very good search engine for two years before you started using it.
The iPod was a dud.
I wrote Unleashing the Ideavirus 8 years ago. A few authors tried similar ideas but it didn’t work right away. So they gave up. Boingboing is one of the most popular blogs in the world because they never gave up.
So… if you’d hoped to find the miracle to getting rich overnight on the web, you haven’t. Most of those people were lucky… or brilliant. It (overnight success) might have happened to the occasional person, but for most of us, it won’t. Instead, we who desire success online can rest assured that if we persevere, we will eventually become a success, by being who we are and doing what we love. In a nutshell, by exhibiting that which Godin has determined has been the key to his very own success.
Patience.
It really is that simple.
