Image of woman votingIt’s a catchy title, isn’t it?

If it was actually what I believed, I’d deserve to be lambasted, and be the first to admit it.

It is however, not my belief, but the apparent belief of a plethora of African Americans.

It is the belief of the ones who’ve been sending James T. Harris all those nasty comments, nasty comments including death threats because as an African American who happens to be a Conservative, he is not supporting Barack Obama.

For his public support of McCain, for encouraging McCain to ‘go after Obama’, people have said some of the following things:

John McCain, has been looking for a black fool to hug on ever since the last debate. He’s found one his name is James Harris. And to all of you little Similac babies who don’t know your history. Do some research on the Bradley factor. There are folks that won’t vote for Obama just because he’s black. Let face it this is America and its always about race. Don’t be fooled.

Hey Santiago , I do know that you are longing to be a white man. Soo Sambo I will send a gallon a paint to help you out.

In reply, Harris had this to say:

“Most of the stuff that I got in the email was like, ‘How can a black man stand up and say that?’ Well you know what? I happen to be an American of African descent, but I am a conservative,” Harris said.

So I think what I’ve learned today, from watching these news reports, seeing the death threats quoted in technicolor on every television station I turn to, reading the comments at blogs and forums and the like, is that if you’re an American of African descent… you’re supposed to vote for Obama because regardless of how you actually feel politically, you’re not supposed to vote against your race; you’re supposed to help him become the first American President of African descent because he’s of African descent.

Now I, because I am a fraccer sometimes, feel it necessary to state then, if this holds true for African Americans, that it stands to reason that no white person in the United States of America, should be voting for Barack Obama. All white people should, regardless of their political convictions, vote for John McCain. It’s a good thing we’ve had this little event, and I’m glad this issue’s been cleared up for me. If Americans of African descent believe that they should vote for Obama because of his color, logic dictates that white people shouldn’t vote for Obama.[1]

All white people out there in the United States of America, please take note. You’re hereby being given notice that you should not be voting for anyone other than John McCain as President of your country.

Now that sounds pretty stupid, doesn’t it?

Well it sounds just as stupid in reverse, so how about this?

How about each and every one of you, right now… ask yourself if you’re voting for the person you’ve decided to vote for because they are a certain race, or because they’re not a certain race. If you realize you’re doing that, how about making this radical choice…

Don’t vote.

Leave the voting to all the people who will and are actually making a choice based on their political convictions, and what they think will be the better choice for your country, not by what color someone is.

At that point, then please just shut up… because this garbage sounds stupid whether it’s coming from the voice of a white person, or a person of African descent, and…

It is better to keep your mouth closed and let people think you are a fool than to open it and remove all doubt. (Mark Twain)

[1] Disclaimer: I realize this is a generalization and that there are white people supporting Obama and African Americans supporting McCain. The generalization was made for the purpose of pointing out how stupid this whole situation is, not because I believe it. Save your venom for the stupid people, unless you of course, are one of the stupid people. In that case, you’ll probably flip out at me anyway.

I totally agree with your “flotsam” post… This whole election is just disturbing! I am sad it’s the first presidential election that both of my daughters are eligible to vote in… They are both disgusted with the whole process.

Thanks for the buzz up on this Chris!

  3. Well if black people are voting for obama because of his skin color anthat alone….I feel threatened. This country went through a nasty period where as an american I am still getting blamed for things that happened 200 and above years ago..I can feel that sometimes black people just do not like white people, therefore, if they want change to happen, they should change too. My vote will go to Mccain…Only because of the black people and their narrow minded view in this election…after all…obama was raised in a WHITE HOUSE….hold.GOD BLESS AMERICA>>>WE NEED YOU NOW!!!
