Fracas Helps You Find A Web Host
I admit it. I was stupid.
Quite some time ago, I decided to start up a blog. I knew that someday I’d want that blog to be a part of some type of business to enable me to work from home, but I, doubting myself and not looking to the future, chose to blog at Wordpress.com. Don’t get me wrong now, it’s been a fabulous home for me for quite some time, and having the benefits of all that they offer was certainly a wonderful thing. I was never regretful until I became serious about wanting to earn from my blog, and realizing that the platform I’d chosen and become popular on would now hamper my efforts, I wished I’d thought differently from the start.
Not wanting to abandon all I’d built, I chose instead, to register this name, build this site, and operate it as the sibling of my original site. Starting over is hard work. Building traffic, rank, content and clientele is no overnight task… unless you’re lucky enough to end up on the evening news.
So if you’re joining the blogging world, or setting up some other type of a site of your own, I’m going to suggest that you take that leap of faith, register your own domain name, and purchase yourself a hosting package. There are oodles of reasonable hosting companies available now, and many have web-based ftp, enabling you to upload files directly from your computer into the control panel of your domain… never requiring you to purchase or learn to use an ftp client.
To make your search for a host that much easier, I’ve spent hours of my time locating a dozen good choices for you to compare. Following each row of images is a very brief review I have also located. One thing to remember about web host reviews, is that many sites reviewing are biased and have their own agenda for telling you what’s the best host out there. So one site will list their #1, 2 and 3 as A, B and C and the next review site will list their #1, 2 and 3 as J, K and L. I’m not going to do that. I’m going to provide you with a snippet, and let you choose which you think is your #1, 2 or 3 based on your own needs.
Clicking the image for the host you prefer will take you over to their site to have a better look. At the end of this article, I will share with you my own personal choice.
Lunarpages: “Lunarpages hosting plan is suitable for all purposes including personal website, hobby and even e-commerce site. Most of their customers are pleased with their consistent uptime and security.”
Dotster: “The hosting management software solution is either cPanel VPS, Plesk Linux VPS or Plesk Windows VPS. Dotster has a comprehensive FAQ/ knowledge base, live chat support, web hosting chat support, telephone support, email support, and spam reporting services.”
Bluehost: “BlueHost is here to secure your business. Their veteran hosting team knows what it takes to be the best and how they can help make your site a success.”
Hostgator: “Host Gator’s key to success is their motto that is a reliable service, a customer support that never fails you and a pricing package that provides features that any site owner can only dream for.”
PowWeb: “We would recommend PowWeb to anyone who needs large amounts of storage and data transfer combined with top-notch support and multiple website tools at a value for money rate.”
StartLogic: “StartLogic is a proud reseller of iPowerWeb. StartLogic have their own offices, technical support, sales and billing department. They operate as a reliable, strong, committed and effective private company.”
Hostmonster: “Outsourcing to third party answering services is a pretty common practice. The good news with Hostmonster is that they don’t do that! Everyone you talk to on the phone or through the ticket forum is an actual Hostmonster employee.”
HostRocket: “Altogether, not a bad package. I’ve heard that if you call them up there may be a pricing break in it for you! Just talk to pre-sales in the sales chat about it.”
JustHost: “Just Host provides support for all the most popular formats like Real audio and video streaming, macromedia shockwave, even MIME type support is included.”
FatCow: “FatCow is cool. The folks over there have a slick package, and they back it up with the quality you would expect from a company that REALLY wants to keep you happy!”
Webhostingpad: “Webhostingpad’s firm belief in customer service has led them to have one of the best response time for support. Not only do they get your issues resolved the first time, but they are fast.”
There you have it. A dozen choices to help you find your own home on this marvelous internet.
Oh yes. My personal choice.
Fraccers uses Hostgator. On the advice of one great and fraccy sis who has used them for some of her clients as well as herself and has bucketloads of experience with how great their customer service department is, I chose to be indebted to a gator. Their up-time is fabulous, and it didn’t hurt that they happen to be one of the hosting options that allows me to upload directly to their cpanel and spare me the added step of a separate ftp client. I know… for some, using an ftp client is just the ticket, but for me… the simpler and the easier… the better.
I’ve not had one complaint since.
May your foray into the web hosting world be as easy and trouble-free as mine has been, and… happy blogging!

Actually, I’m a web host, too, but for a bit more robust business audience … $25/mo. I sell domain pretty cheap, tho — I undercut GoDaddy pretty good.

I’m sure you already guessed my post was directed more towards those who don’t know what they’re doing yet… but that’s bloody awesome Mark! I think I knew… but didn’t exactly know… if you know what I mean.
And just ’cause I like you, you get to leave links here.
