“You cannot multiply wealth by dividing it.”

The famous quote, “You cannot multiply wealth by dividing it,”  is part of a larger piece of work written by Dr. Adrian Rogers.  Fracas is pleased to provide you with the whole piece.

The importance and value of honest labor…

“You cannot legislate the poor into freedom by legislating the wealthy out of freedom. What one person receives without working for, another person must work for without receiving. The government cannot give to anybody anything that the government does not first take from somebody else. When half of the people get the idea that they do not have to work because the other half is going to take care of them, and when the other half gets the idea that it does no good to work because somebody else is going to get what they work for, that my dear friend, is about the end of any nation. You cannot multiply wealth by dividing it.”

Pumpkin Carving Templates

Every year, the fraccy family carves pumpkins… one for each of the three fraccy children. I can’t remember a year that we didn’t, and because fracas is old (really old…) that means pumpkins have gone under the knife here just about as often as Joan Rivers. Sometimes, there’s charm in the basic triangle-eyed chicklet-toothed grin (especially if it was carved by one of your children who have finally grown old enough to use a knife and done it all on their own) but sometimes you’re looking for something fancy… or even funny.

So here’s a list of places you’ll be able to find pumpkin carving patterns that range from the very easy to the very spectacular. (Each link has been verified to be live and containing free patterns as of the date of posting.)

Browse around, choose the one that will make your front stoop the bee’s knees, and if you should remember to take a photo, come back and share it with us; we’d love to see your art!

More Halloween ideas for decor, food and fun can be found over at yet another of fracas’ blogs: Just Fracas. And now that you’ve found the perfect pumpkin pattern… have you got your costume yet, or are you still looking for that perfect wig, shoes or makeup? What about candy? Everyone needs good candy. I think there’s a law somewhere that says so. Speaking of which… I think I forgot something over here… yeah… that’s it…  I ‘forgot’ something. It’s not like I’m cheating on my diet or anything…

Boo-bye for now.

Teh interwebs can make u smart!

It’s true, using the internet can actually improve your brain function. At least this is the claim made by Dr. Gary Small, study author and professor of psychiatry at the Semel Institute for Neuroscience and Human Behavior at UCLA.

human brain in a containerAs the brain ages, a number of structural and functional changes occur, including atrophy, or decay, reductions in cell activity and increases in complex things like deposits of amyloid plaques and tau tangles, which can impact cognitive function.

Research has shown that mental stimulation similar to the stimulation that occurs in individuals who frequently use the Internet may affect the efficiency of cognitive processing and alter the way the brain encodes new information.

“We found that for older people with minimal experience, performing Internet searches for even a relatively short period of time can change brain activity patterns and enhance function,”

Additional studies will be needed to address the impact of the Internet on younger individuals and help identify aspects of online searching that generate the greatest levels of brain activation.

The findings were presented Oct. 19 at the meeting of the Society for Neuroscience in Chicago, Illinois.

The Halloween Costumes Smorgasboard

It’s getting dangerously close to Halloween, and if you haven’t got your costume yet… or a good idea for your halloween costume, then you’ve come to the right place. Fracas (that’s me, not to be confused with fracas the blog… which is also me…) has been busy hunting down ideas and great buys for you.

First… the ready made. These are just the ticket if you don’t sew, have no time, hate being creative but want to look the part, or are just plain lazy and out for the fun without all the fussing. It helps too, if you find a great place that offers inexpensive $4.99 Flat Rate Shipping! I mean seriously… who wants to spend a fortune on shipping? No one. Put your savings into a great costume instead. There’s still time to order a costume by standard delivery and get it before Halloween, but don’t dawdle… time is running out!

These are a few of my favorites, and why. (Clicking the images will take you to the costume site)

From left to right:

A. Being a fan of the subservient* variety, I had to choose the chicken. I wonder though, how many folks would monopolize the evening by asking the wearer to do all kinds of naughty things? (Found in the ‘Adult Costumes’ section)

B.  Anyone who reads the fracas blog knows I celebrate “Talk Like a Pirate Day” each September, so this one is obvious. I might have to get it not for Halloween, but for next year’s “Talk Like a Pirate Day” festivities. Arrr…  (Found in the ‘Adult Costumes’ section)

C.  I love this scarecrow! He’s got just enough of a fraccy edge to him for me! (Found in the ‘Adult Costumes’ section)

D.  How can you not love this? From famous characters to the tried and true, the Kids section has some fractastic finds. I personally love the Tinkerbell and the Cinderella! (Found in the ‘Kid’s’ Costumes’ section)

There’s a reason this is one my favorite costume/party sites online. The costumes look good, and there’s something for every budget. Whether you’re looking for mascot, adult or kid’s costumes, plus size costumes, accessories like shoes, wigs, makeup… or party supplies, there’s a section for you. Some of the best looking costumes out there can be found among the 10,000 they carry, and in many cases, shipping is even free.

I’ll be back with more later. For now, happy halloween shopping!

* Written about over at the fracas blog, Subservient Chicken was a marketing ploy by Burger King. Visitors to the website thought they were typing in a command and the chicken was doing what they asked. In truth, the chicken was filmed doing a variety of actions that were predetermined. Still… it was funny, and a bit of creative genious.
